Microlight & PPl Medical Certificate

CAA recently made changes to PPL certification and it is possible to get a Private Pilots Licence without going through the full Class 2 assessment process.  See below for details

If you intend to fly for fun only, then one option is to consider a PPL via a DL9 certificate or a microlight certificate. The medical requirements for these are less stringent and cheaper. How does a PPL using a DL9 compare with a Class 2 PPL? - details are available here

PPL versus Microlight

For a PPL certificate, you need to meet the Land Transport requirements for a Transport licence (eg Bus, Heavy Traffic) with a passenger endorsement

For a microlight certificate, you need to meet the Land Transport Class 2 (private car) licence. I am the Medical Advisor for RAANZ so contact me if you have questions

You can get the examination done by your usual GP, but as flying is different from driving ie no opportunity to pull over if you are not feeling well, there are benefits to getting the examination done by an aviation medical professional.
